Who We Are

Established in 2018 under the aegis of St. Andrews School and in association with Madras Dyslexia Association (M.D.A.), Akira is a not-for-profit, full-fledged independent learning center, located within the Marredpally campus of St. Andrews School. The first of its kind in Telangana, Akira offers a one or two year full-time remediation programme for students with Dyslexia and language-based learning difficulties.

What we do

Akira offers two services under one roof – Remedial Therapy (special education) and Occupational Therapy. The intention is to provide all services within one building and within school hours to ensure students are not overburdened or fatigued. The program accepts children between 6 – 10 years of age.

The remediation programme is offered for a period of one year at the minimum to two years at the maximum, dependent on the individual needs of the child and intensity of remediation required.
1:5 Teacher - Student ratio (1 Special Educator to 5 students in each class).
Akira uses skill-building strategies, activity-based learning and multi-sensory teaching methods (visual, auditory, kinesthetic & tactile).
Syllabus: a blend of academic remediation paired with select grade level CBSE lessons from St. Andrews School.
An Individual Education Program (IEP) is mapped out for each child based on their strengths and needs to ensure individual learning goals are met.
Core subjects (English, Math, EVS & 2nd Language) are taught in Akira by Special Educators.
Extracurricular subjects (Games, Music, Computer & Library) are taught in St. Andrews School campus by St. Andrews teachers.
In-house, full time Occupational Therapy offering 1:1 & group sessions.
Daily Brain Gym.
Weekly Multiple Intelligence (M.I.) sessions.
Upon leaving Akira, students are mainstreamed into St. Andrews School or into their previous school.

How we do it

Our remediation programme focuses greatly on skill building, to help equip the child with the pre-skills required for academics.
We highlight the students’ strengths and give students the confidence to use them.
We offer a broad and balanced curriculum, with personalized learning and student outcomes.
Akira employs a holistic approach by evaluating the individual needs of each student and providing personalized instruction and continuous academic monitoring throughout the academic year.
Reading, writing and the content subjects are taught with a strong emphasis on language competence, skill development and cognitive strategy.

To personally understand what works for each student and educate them in the ways that works best for them.
For students to develop the four core skills; problem solving, independence, communication and teamwork.
To empower the parents and help them understand what works best for their child.
For students to emerge much more confident in their ability to achieve success and with a greater self-esteem.
For students to acquire the academic strategies and skills necessary to reach their full potential.
For students to understand their learning differences so they can become effective self-advocates.
For students to be well prepared for their next steps beyond Akira, re-enter mainstream school with a more positive mindset and become independent lifelong learners.
